Stonehouse Runner Finished

Just before Christmas I finished my Stonehouse Runner by The Old Tattered Flag. I truly had no idea it was so big but after two of my friends finished theirs I realized I was in for a real treat. I used a size 8.5 so it really didn't take that long.

The top one shows the colors better but the bottom one shows the whole rug. I was working on the binding in these pictures. It's all finished now and rolled up and put away.

My husband uses a walker so I can't put the rug on the floor.

Patty and Faye finished theirs before I started mine.

 Faye's rug is on the left and Patty's rug is on the right. I just loved the colors but wanted something different for my rug.

Here is Patty's rug in it's spot. It is absolutely perfect! Patty and I were originally going to do our rugs together at Prairie Rose Rug School but I didn't get to go because of my husbands health. Patty hooked this in a size 7. I think Faye used and 8 or 8.5.

Birds and Berries Rug Finished

The end of May there was a Rug Camp here in Cody at the Irma Hotel. It was put on by Carrie Martin. The rug I worked on was Birds and Berries from Susan Quicksall. I wanted it to be more neutral but different than I usually do.

The colors aren't showing up very well, but I love how it turned out. It was a really fun Camp. I even sold a lot of my woven bracelets!

Because of the ATHA Biennial next year in Denver we won't be having a camp in 2019 but The Wild West Rug Hookers have scheduled our own camp at the Irma Hotel May 3-7th 2020 with Cynthia Norwood! I'm very excited for BOTH events!

Projects to Show

One good thing about being so slow to post is that I get to post several things at once. It makes a better show, or at least that's my story.

This is a design I love so much. It is a Barbra Brown design from years ago. I'm so happy with how it turned out. It's one of my favorites.

 You can't see her swirly tail but it's there. She was so much fun to make. I used a 9.5 cut on this adorable pillow design from Heavens to Betsy.

 Faye Shilling drew a stool pattern from a Maggie Bonanomi design. I call it my Love Shack. I think Maggie calls it Settlers Pride. It's finished I just don't have a picture of it. I have it on an Ikea stool.The original base pattern is from Cindy Gay.

 Debra and I decided to make up beginner kits for the Wild West Rug Hookers to have so that new beginners can get the tools they need to get started right away. I drew this 10x10 design. The kit has all the pre-cut wool, pattern which has already been sewn around the cutting line, rug tape, and instructions.

 This is my other kit. I'm really happy with how these kits turned out.

 This Ikea stool cover was designed by Faye Schilling. I was so much in love with Faye's that coppied hers as best I could.

There are birds on opposite sides. I think they are my favorite part.

Weaving Bracelets

Rug hooking is my passion but I also enjoy so many other things. Weaving is one thing I enjoy a lot. I saw some bracelets on Pinterest and decided I needed to make some. Notice I said some. For some odd reason I thought I would sell them. 

 This was one of my first ones so it isn't great but the good news is that I got better.

 Here are 4 before I did all the work to put them on the cuffs. I hand dyed the silk and I use copper cuff blanks. Copper is always good for arthritis so since I had to pick a metal that's the one I chose.

 Some I have beads around the outside and others I didn't . Some have sparkly beads and others dull. They are all backed with Ultrasuede.

I have made several since I took these pictures in many more colors (I was in a blue and purple mood) and have many more to make. When I feel like I have a large enough selection I will open an Etsy store. I'm still not sure why I thought I needed a job but I'm enjoying making these so much. Between dyeing the silks and weaving with the different colors I'm having a blast. I just hope someone likes them enough to buy them. I know what I want to get out of them. Hopefully someone will see the art in them. 

New Year of Rugs

It's already February and I haven't shown any projects for a long while. I have had a blast hooking pillows lately.

It all started with the one pillow by Theresa Rapstine, then I had to hook her second pillow, Big Blue Flower. After that I thought how cute one more would be when I saw the adorable pillows being hooked at A Nimble Thimble in a class by Martha Lowery. I couldn't make it to Texas for the class, but I ordered the pillow pattern from them (Woolley Fox) and hooked it on my own with the decorative stitches I saw online that they did in the class. 

 Then I decided I needed one more smaller pillow so I drew a design much like the rug Martha Lowery hooked for the book Caldwell Impressions. Again I used the decorative stitches. I am so very happy with how all my pillows turned out. All of the outsides of the pillows are done with proddy.

In between pillows I worked on the Coffee rug I purchased from Carrie Martin at the Denver Hook-In. I had to change my border 5 times but I think I got it right now. This is a pretty big rug and it will be perfect in the kitchen.

 For a couple of years now I have had the Padula Pomegranates finished and I just never figured out why I never hung it up. One day I realized it was because I hated the two gold pomegranates so I pulled the gold out and re-hooked it in colors that were in the rug already. Thank goodness I dye too much fabric for a project because I still had some of the wool to use. I am much happier with it now and as soon as I sew the sleeve on it I will have it on the wall where it belongs.
